The West Bengal Police department invites applications from eligible men and women for the 400 Sub Inspector jobs in the state. As per the Govt. of India laws, there will be reservation for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B of West Bengal. In case, suitable Lady Sub-Inspector of Police is not found, the vacant position will be filled by suitable male candidates.
Eligibility
Age
a) Applicants should not have crossed 35 years as on 01/01/2015 which means doesn’t born earlier than 2nd January, 1980.
b) SC/ST candidates would get up to 5 years of age relaxation, and OBC-A/OBC-B candidates would be eligible for up to 3 years.
c) Candidates who have already appeared the exam for Sub Inspectors/Lady Sub Inspectors for 3 occasions are not eligible
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have a degree from a recognized university or its equivalent.

WBP: Sub Inspector Recruitment Method
The SI/LSI exam will be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board through ‘Limited Departmental Examination’ on the basis of Written Exam, followed by the Physical Measurement Test and Personality Test.
SI/LSI Written Exam
The Written Exam consists of three papers of conventional type. They are:
Paper-I – General Studies and Arithmetic of 100 marks (80 marks for General Studies and 20 marks for Arithmetic) of 2 hours duration.
Paper-II – English of 50 marks of one hour duration.
Paper-III – Bengali/ Hindi / Urdu/ Nepali of 50 marks of one hour duration.
All the three papers will be conducted on the same day.
Personality Test
The SI/LSI personality test carries a total of 30 marks. Candidates who cleared the written test (selected on the basis of merit) will be called for the Personality Test.
Physical Measurements
Physical measurements of Height, Weight and Chest of male candidates would be taken on the personality test day. Physical measurements would be taken only for selected candidates who are called for the Personality Test.
N.B. Candidates who have taken Hindi/Urdu/Nepali as a subject in Paper-III and got selected for the post, will require to pass a departmental examination in Bengali. The Bengali exam has to be taken during the probation period for confirmation in the post.
WBP SI/LSI Exam 2015 Syllabus
Paper I – General Studies and Arithmetic
a) General Studies (Group A) A candidate’s General Knowledge/Awareness in different spheres would be tested
b) Arithmetic (Group B) The Arithmetic section questions would be set based on the syllabus of Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
The Paper I (Group A) can be given in English/Bengali/Nepali and the Paper I (Group B) can be given either in English or Bengali. But all the answers must be in one and the same language.

a) Drafting of a report from the points or material supplied
b) Translation from Bengali/Urdu/Nepali as the case may be to English
c) Condensing of a prose passage (summary/precis)
d) Grammar

Candidates has to pay their application fees ONLINE through payment gateway (Bill Desk) by using Debit Cars/Credit Cards/Net-Banking of any bank. An extra amount of INR 5 (rupees five) will be charged by the agency concerned as ‘Service Charge’ for availing the facility.
How to Apply?
a) Candidates can apply for SI/LSI online using the website policewb.gov.in. Once the Application window opens, it will be intimidated.
b) Applicants will require to upload a scanned copy of their passport size photo (within 20-45 KB size), full signature (within 3-15 KB size) and NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE (size will be intimidated in due course) by their respective unit-in-charge/disciplinary authority.
c) Candidates should collect the verified copy of NOC containing his/her particulars as per prescribed format (also available in website) from the unit Reserve office. NOC should be signed by the Units-in-Charge i.e. Commissioner of Police/Superintendent of Police/ Commandant/others.
d) Applicants must retain the original copy of the NOC to be produced later during Personality Test and Physical Measurement.
e) Candidates would get an auto-generated receipt of Unique Application Serial No., on successful submission of the application. All applicants must keep the Unique Application No. safely for all future communications
Points to Remember:
a) Candidates should submit only ONE application. Submitting more than one application would be rejected
b) Applicants must furnish only correct personal details. Furnishing incorrect & false information and suppressing material will be disqualified for recruitment to the post.
c) SC/ST/OBC candidates belonging to other state than West Bengal shall be considered as Unreserved candidates
d) Candidates need to produce original testimonials during the Personality Test
e) TA/DA will be given to the applicants for attending their Written/Personality Test. It will be sanctioned by their respective DDOs as per extant rules/entitlement
f) WBPRB hold complete authority on finalizing eligibility, exam date, mode of selection, posting, place and location etc.
g) Selected candidates need to undergo a training course as specified by the Government in accordance with the Police Regulations
h) The Final Merit List will be prepared based on the total marks obtained in the 3 paper of Written Exam and Personality Test
