Q1. When and how did you start taking tuitions for class 10?
In 1993, one of my family friends casually approached me to teach their daughter, who was in class 10th at that time. It was then that I started taking tuition, and ever since I have been loving my journey of teaching and learning with the children. The very first student, who was trained under me secured 100% in mathematics, and that is one of the biggest motivational factors to continue my passion for teaching.
Q2. What skills are required to become a tutor?
One should have a passion for teaching. Tutors should enjoy this whole learning and teaching process, and they should mingle with children and help them learn. Also, teaching has to be a two-way interaction; there are multiple times when we learn from children.
Q3. What do you think makes you stand out from other class 10th tutors on Urbanpro?
I follow the ‘peer teaching’ method. Here, a student teaches the subject to his/her friend. This induces confidence in children, and it helps them in revising the concepts they have learnt. Also, this method makes children thorough with the subject. Occasionally, I insist children do presentations, to boost their confidence levels. Honest and positive feedback from my students and children constantly motivates me to do more for them.

Q5. What was the turning point in your career?
One of my students, who was a slow learner secured 70% marks in Mathematics in 10th grade. This was a massive leap from a single digit score to 70%.
