• The most popular amongst these 5 is the “Foundation Certification”, which is the first move towards all higher level ITIL certification. Any beginner can get this certification, where as the higher level certifications might require some work experience.
• The exam for ITIL Foundation certification has a total of 40 multiple choice questions which are to be answered in 60 minutes. A candidate has to get least 26 of them right, i.e. 65%, in order to get the certification.
• The total cost of ITIL certification includes the training cost and examination cost. The training cost may vary with different training providers, but the examination cost might range between Rs 5,500 – Rs 7,000.

Note: A recent announcement declared that from January 2014, ITIL will raise the examination fee to somewhere between Rs 11,500 to 14,000.

Candidates from a Non-IT Background

Anyone who doesn’t have an IT background can appear and even clear an ITIL exam. The probability of professional success may however vary.

This is because ITIL is all about Information Technology. If you’re not from an IT background, you are not likely to possess enough basic knowledge related to IT services domain. If you think you have even a semi-technical knowledge base about the IT field, you can go for ITIL.

Here are some common job roles for entry level and experienced ITIL certified professionals.

1.      For Entry Level /Some experience

• Process coordination:  Incident Coordinator, Change Coordinator and Configuration Analyst.
• Help Desk
• Desktop/Application Support

2.      For more than 6 years of experience

• Managerial Roles:  Project Manager, Problem Manager, Release Manager and Service Desk Manager.
• Consulting Role: Process consultant, Process Developer.
• ITIL Trainer.
