Yoga as a Healthy Way of Life

Yoga is not just exercise; it’s a therapy that heals the body physically and psychologically. People believe that the practice of yoga started moreover 4000 years ago in the Indus-Sarasvati civilization that flourished in Northern India. The name Yoga was first found in one of the oldest books ever written in India, the Rig Veda. It is believed that Brahmans and Vedic priests first practised yoga poses. However, with time it gradually became available for common people from other castes.

During the 3rd century, ‘Yoga’ became a very known term in almost all religious books. Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu are the three religions that adopted yoga as a medium of connection with the spiritual world. It was also regarded as one of the best ways to find one’s true self. Gradually, during the 5th century, yoga became a part of meditation, but it was still mostly practised for religious purposes only. Later on, yoga started to become popular because of its overall healthy approach to life. The more people came to know about yoga, the better they understood its importance and how it improves their lifestyle.

The best part of practising yoga is that it heals the body from within without any kind of medication. According to surveys, people who practice yoga asanas daily live a healthier and better life than others. Practising daily yoga impacts the mind, look, and body of the person. Yoga poses not only makes the body healthy, but it also releases tension, mental fatigue and provides a sense of calm and peace. Thus, meditation is also recommended for people suffering from various mental disorders or going through hard times of their lives.

Although the schools have counsellors who take care of students’ mental health, scientists have found nothing to work better than practising yoga every day.

With more time, depression can turn into a severe mental problem, which can turn into a disorder. So people who suffer from depression are suggested to join yoga classes. Sudarshan Kriya, one of the most common yoga positions, is very effective in curing depression.

People who are health-conscious need to do exercises regularly. However, it has been found that practising yoga has given better results than common exercises. Moreover, most of the activities required special equipment, which could be difficult for some people to arrange. Yoga can be practised without any such equipment. One just needs to find some time daily, preferably in the morning, and practice the yoga poses correctly.
