The NIFT is an entrance level examination conducted once in a year by National Institute of Fashion Technology. Aspiring Fashion students need to clear the entrance test, followed by situation test/group discussion/personal interview to get into UG and PG programmes in fashion technology and design field.

NIFT 2017 Eligibility Criteria
For all Bachelor’s Programmmes
For writing the NIFT test, a candidate should not be more than 23 years as on 1st October, 2016. The upper age limit will be further relaxed by 5 years for Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Differently Abled Person (PHP)
Bachelor Programmes – Bachelor of Design
(Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)
Candidates should meet any one of the following educational qualifications:
- The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
- Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
- A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
- 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Bachelor Programmes – Technology
Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech.)
Candidates should meet any one of the following educational qualifications:
- The +2 level examination of any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/SriLanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education
For Master’s Programmes
There is no age limit for Master programmes.
Master Programmes – Design
M.Des (Master of Design)
Candidates should meet any one of the following educational qualifications criteria:
- Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India
- Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only
- Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
Please note: Design Space is an advanced level course that requires a candidate who already understands fundamentals of design, basic skills and theories to be able to finish the course. The course is not going to provide any fundamentals skill development in design as a part of Master programme. It also provides candidates an option to students to earn final semester credits through ‘Course Work’ or a ‘Dissertation’.
Eligibility for Master Programme – Management
M.F.M (Master of Fashion Management)
Candidates should meet any one of the following educational qualifications:
- Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
- Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
Eligibility for Master Programme – Technology
M.F.Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology)
- B.F.Tech. from NIFT or • B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
Candidates appearing for the qualifying exams are also eligible to apply for the exam. But while taking admission, candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria by showing relevant documents.

Application Fees
General/OBC (Non-creamy) – Rs. 1500 (through payment gateway or demand draft)
SC/ST/PHP – Rs. 750 (through payment gateway or demand draft)
All payments can be made through Credit Cards/Debit Cards and Demand Draft.

The NIFT entrance test 2017 will be conducted across 32 cities on 12th February, 2017. It will be a PBT (Paper Based Test) for UG and PG programmes. Candidates need to select One City only which cannot be changed later.

NIFT 2017 Exam Patterns
All candidates need to appear for an entrance test based on their choice of programme. The written test will gauge the knowledge skill and aptitude of a candidate for the program opted. There is no negative marking so candidates should attempt all the questions.
The candidates for M.Des will take GAT and CAT. On the basis of the result of GAT and CAT, in the case of M.Des. and GAT in the case of M.F Tech and MFM, candidates will be called for Group Discussion or Personal Interview.
GAT (General Ability Test) for Bachelor Design (B.DES.) and Master of Design (M.DES.). GAT comprises of the following sections:
- Quantitative Ability
- Communication Ability
- English Comprehension
- Analytical Ability
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs
