We are happy to feature Ancy Alex, an experienced and certified British Council Tutor from Gujarat. She carries 7 years of experience as a Spoken English, IELTS, PTE, OET and Soft Skill Trainer. Ancy is passionate about her tutoring career and till now she has taught more than 3000 students.
In the course of 7 years, Ancy had worked in 3 different states i.e., Kerala, Telangana and Gujarat. So, she has core experience of handling students from different backgrounds and interests. Here is her experience & teaching journey in her own words:
1. Why did you choose to become a Spoken English tutor?
Ans: I started teaching when I was hardly 19 years old. My mother is a home teacher, and I used to assist her in teaching English; thus developing confidence that I can teach adult students too. When I was studying in the final year of my Engineering degree, I got hired by one of the best institutions located in my city. Over time, with the experience of teaching a good number of students, individually whose background and levels were diverse, moulded me as a language trainer.
2. What skills are required to become a Spoken English tutor?
Ans: I would say one should have a good command over the English language. Experience to teach and explain the usage of language to the students irrespective of their level. Patience is yet another skill because the students who try to learn a new language will tend to make many mistakes; so as a trainer, one should be persistent in correcting the errors made by the students.
3. How did you come across UrbanPro.com?
Ans: I guess I came across UrbanPro in the year 2017 after reading an article in Naukri.
4. What distinguishes you from other Spoken English tutors?
Ans: I don’t emphasise only on teaching Grammar to my Spoken English students. Since language is something that is an acquired skill, I teach my students through different activities to make my class more exciting. Through experience, I have realized that persistence is the key, and I stay patient during the class while correcting my students. I make sure they continue speaking, even if it is grammatically incorrect.
