Happy Teachers’ Day – A tribute to all teachers

Teachers are the first building blocks of our lives who taught us the first lessons of life. They taught us how to differentiate between right and wrong and follow the right path. Teachers are our childhood mentors who instil in us life skills and help develop our character so that we become capable of facing and solving different challenges in life. They build in us the ability to contribute positively to society and help us become a good human being.

To commemorate teachers’ selfless contributions and sacrifices for education and development, Teachers’ Day is celebrated worldwide. Though UNESCO has declared 5th October as World Teachers’ Day, the date of Teachers’ Day celebration differs from nation to nation. In Albania, the occasion is celebrated on 7th March, Bangladesh on 4th October, Bhutan on 2nd May, Chile on 16th October, China on 10th September, Jordan on 28th February, Venezuela on 15th January and more. The date of paying tribute and appreciating teachers’ for their relentless efforts in educating the children may differ but the purpose is the same.

In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5th September every year. It is the birthday of India’s most renowned teacher Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was also a great scholar, diplomat, and second President of India during 1962-1967. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm by students in Indian schools and colleges where students show their appreciation and thank their teachers, for their valuable contributions. It is not a holiday, but a day of celebration where students show their gratitude for their teachers.

Teachers are an important part of our lives. They teach, and inspire us in a million ways, to make us a better and capable person. Teachers are not restricted to people who teach us in the classrooms, they are also those people who have touched our hearts and lives, and taught us to find the right path and choose good over evil.
