During the last days in school, every student waits for their college life. It is, of course, exciting to get admission in your dream college with the course you wanted to pursue. Its your effort and struggle that makes you part of the college that you aimed for. Yet, once the first month passes all students forget their purpose and aim in college. Friends come priority and the sudden independence becomes too much to handle. The outcomes are, when the semester results are out it is so bad that the students themselves don’t realize that their performance degraded so much.
However, if from the first day of college the basic motivation to be a good scholar is kept in mind, the rest falls into place. Keeping studies as the first priority, if the rest of college life is enjoyed – then the outcome might not be so bad.
So, how to maintain a good performance and persona as a student from the first day in college?
Here is a list of basic to-dos that every student can follow during their college days. These will ensure good score in semesters and definitely a handsome package if your course is backed by placement facility.
Be punctual
Just because college allows you to enter its premises at any point of time, it does not mean you will not stick to its timelines. Classes in college happen no different than school. College classes are divided into periods and subject wise sessions are held. Try attending as many classes as possible starting from the first one. In case of dismissal of classes, professors inform students. In case your first period got dismissed you can reach in college late but definitely not miss the following classes.
Bunking classes has cons
You are officially allowed to bunk classes in colleges but that has limitations. First on prolong bunking your total attendance will go down and you will not be permitted to write exams during semesters. Two, classes in college happen exactly like school. If you bunk a class, it will become tough for you to cope in class when you will get back. However, emergencies might come in and in those times, you can bunk college classes.
Stick to dress regulations
A much-waited independence in college is definitely the dress code. Students can wear whatever they want. But check your college website or brochure, in broad terms college authorities, state the dressing rules both for male and female students. Try abiding the dress code of your college if you plan to be among the good student’s category. Obscene clothing to college creates unnecessary fuss and parents might also be informed about the same.
Abide the deadlines
College faculty gives students assignments like presentations or research reports and for each there is a deadline. Maintain the deadline in order to keep pace with the college syllabus and studies. In case, you find that you might miss the deadline for genuine reasons, you can inform your professors in advance.
Put up a decent behaviour
College does not mean you will be good in class only. You have to be a good student beyond class hours also. In case you put up an unruly or indecent behaviour outside the college, you will be defaming yourself along with your institute’s name. Once admitted to college, its reputation depends on all good and bad things you do.
Do not miss exams
Even if bunking classes might be considered by the end of the year with a lot of fuss; bunking exams is definitely a no. Whether it is a class test in college or the semesters – you physically need to go and write it. Exceptions accepted in case you are injured or critically sick. However, do let the college authority know genuine reason in papers if you miss any exam in college.
Love the library
Your college is the last institute where you will get the free library access. Use it to the maximum you can. It is not necessary that you have to take academic books from the college library. You can take all kinds of books and read for knowledge from the college library.
Get noticed by the professors
Usually, colleges have a mass of students and only a few of them get noticed by professors. But those who are the apple’s eye of the professors are definitely the good students of the class. Try to enter the brigade of good students when in college, so that your professors know you. It is important and the contact can remain beyond college campus also.
