Documents
When you think of documents to carry in a job interview, the first is of course your resume. Even if you have forwarded it to the hiring manager, do copy ample hard copies of your resume. Make sure your resume is updated with all latest information and does not look an old one. Importantly, if there is date option in your resume, you should make sure that its the respective day’s date only. Along with resume, try carrying photocopies of all your mark sheet and certificates. Though these are not usually required on the interview day itself but keeping these is being on the safe side. Also, depending on the job you can carry with yourself a hardcopy of the portfolio you have with noteworthy work samples. The last one applies for experienced candidates only. Among the documents do add a hard copy of the interview confirmation. This might be asked for by the security or HR officer.
Location and contact information
Location and contact details about the interview center is usually shared to via e-mail. Please jot it on a piece of paper and carry it as a hard copy. By chance, if your phone turns off or the net connection goes slow on the way it will be very difficult for you to find out where the interview location was mentioned and you can even get late.
Bag/folder
Considering the above number of documents, its evident you cannot carry them in hand. So put them all in a bag or folder and head to your interview location. These will make it easy to deal and you will find out your belongings at the right time, with no huss or fuss. Its suggested to make a separate bag/folder that you carry to interviews only.
Identity Card
Many interviewers ask for the ID card before letting you go insider the interview venue. This cannot be your college id or present organization’s id. It has to be a government approved id card like pan card, voter card and so on. When you are asked for id, give it and do take it in return. Do not miss to leave your id card.
Watch
When you are going for a job interview, wear a good watch on the left hand. This accessorizes your outlook and makes you look more professional. Also, if you have to submit or switch off your cell phone during the interview, you can use the watch to check time. Hence, wearing a watch during job interview makes sense.
A charged cell phone
Most interviewers may ask you to submit your phone, still keep it charged so that if in case you have difficulty to find the interview location, you can call the hiring manager and ask for directions. Also, once the interview is over you can communicate the status of your interview immediately to friends an family. Many a times, you might have to show the interview confirmation e-mail in phone only.
Water and tissues
When you go for a job interview, its obvious to feel thirsty. So, drink your own water bottle and use it when there is scope. In case you want to use the water bottle amidst an interview, do ask for permission. Keeping tissues is also being on the safer side on the interview day.
