Preparing for the IELTS exam? It is important to be aware of the rules and regulations of the test day. Be ready for the test day in advance to give your best performance. Below are few tips listed for IELTS test takers:
Be prepared and on time
Don’t just wait to sort out things till the last minute. Start preparing for the IELTS test day a day or two in advance. Check your exam date and time and ready all documents that you need to carry on the test day.
Make sure that you reach on time, if you are not sure how long it would take to reach the exam centre, you probably can visit the centre few days before the exam day. Remember, you may not be allowed to take the test if you are late. Also ensure you are carrying the right documents. Carrying an invalid or wrong ID proof, will disqualify you from taking the test.
Stay calm and relaxed
It is natural to be anxious before an exam. Still try to stay calm and relaxed. Least you want is to perform poorly due to anxiety. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask the staff. They would be able to help you. It is better to read the IELTS rules and regulations given in the IELTS Application form. This will help you to understand the rules better.
Abide by the rules
It is always good to follow the instructions and abide by the rules. Here are few rules for IELTS test day:
- Switch off your electronic devices including mobile phones. You will need to place these with other personal belongings outside before entering the test room.
- No breaks are allowed when you are taking – Listening, Reading and Writing sections. It takes 2 hours and 40 minutes.
- Make sure you eat and drink before the test. As no food is allowed inside the test room and you will be allowed to drink only from a transparent bottle.
- Listen to the instructions of the supervisor on how to sit for the test.
- Remember to read the instructions before starting the test.
- Don’t lose points for careless mistakes because you haven’t read the instructions properly.
Time management
- Like any other exam, have an eye on time to complete all questions. There will have a clock on the wall in every test room.
- For Listening, Reading and Writing tests allot enough time for each section.
- Be aware that some questions have suggested time limits for you to follow.
