Considering the wide acceptance of GRE by students and universities, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) has widened the coverage of the exam.
Now GRE exam, based on particular subjects are held in order to encourage students take up academic streams of their preference.
At the introductory stage, ETS has started with seven subject based GRE exam.

Biochemistry cell and molecular biology
Three interrelated subjects namely biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology along with genetics are covered in this. Biology

The GRE Bio test usually includes 190 MCQ questions where for each candidate have to pick from five given options. During result, students are given a total score and score in each section. Chemistry
The chemistry syllabus of GRE is split into four subheads – Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. The Chemistry based GRE exam is designed with approximately 130 MCQ questions. GRE question papers have printed periodic tables for convenience of students.
Literature in English
The English literature test distribution includes History and Theory of Literary Criticism, Cultural and Historical Contexts (20–25%), Identification (15–20%) and Literary Analysis (40–55%). The English test contains approximately 230 MCQ questions on different literary forms like poem, drama, biography, and more.
Maths
Half of GRE Maths paper is composed of calculus. The remaining syllabus contains algebra and discrete maths. Algebra includes different kinds like elementary algebra, linear algebra, abstract algebra, and number theory. To crack the GRE Maths paper, a student’s needs to answer 66 MCQ questions that are set to examine candidate’s intelligence and knowledge.
Physics
The GRE Physics paper has been classified into 9 sub sections – Classical mechanics, electromagnetism , optics and wave phenomena, thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, atomic physics, special relativity, laboratory methods, specialized topics. The vast Physics syllabus makes it tough for students and the question paper usually contains 100 MCQ questions, each supported with five options to pick from.
Psychology
GRE Psychology has been subdivided into three heads – Experimental or natural science oriented, Social or social science oriented and general. However, during score, students receive a total aggregate mark with sub set score of two other sections.
